Groundworks at Riviera Bay

Over the past five years, Leys Construction has been an integral part of transforming and doing the groundworks at Riviera Bay Holiday Park in Brixham, Devon. This expansive, multi-phase project has involved everything from demolition to groundworks and construction, with the aim of turning the holiday park’s dated Hi-De-Hi chalets into luxurious, high-end lodges.

Project Overview

The first phase of this ambitious project began with the demolition of the existing chalets (undertaken by Gilpins Ltd). Following this, we executed a complete regrading of the site, preparing the ground to accommodate the construction of the new lodges. We undertook extensive excavation, formation of roads and remodelling for future development. Key to this phase was the installation of concrete bases and essential services, such as water, electricity, drainage, and the all important broadband, to support the lodges’ modern amenities.

After carrying out the groundworks, we constructed access roads, footpaths, and completed both hard and soft landscaping to create a welcoming and functional environment. The landscaping played a crucial role in elevating the park’s aesthetic appeal, making it not just a place to stay, but a place to experience.

Current Developments (September 2024)

Leys Construction is currently working on the latest phase of the Riviera Bay redevelopment. This phase involves the construction of two modular buildings, which will serve as a bar, reception, restaurant, gym, and changing rooms for the holiday park. We are also constructing a swimming pool and outside seating area.

Scope of Work:

  • Groundworks: Excavation and base construction for the modular buildings
  • Services: Installation of essential utilities (water, electricity, drainage) for the new structures
  • Landscaping: Enhancing the surroundings to maintain the park’s high-end appeal
  • Swimming Pool Construction: Adding a swimming pool to the park’s facilities, ensuring high-quality construction and integration into the existing layout

This phase started in early September 2024 and is expected to be completed by Christmas 2024.

Challenges

The Riviera Bay Holiday Park project presented several unique challenges. The site’s topography required careful regrading to ensure proper drainage and stability for the new structures. Additionally, coordinating construction around the park’s existing operations meant minimising disruption to holidaymakers and ensuring safety at all times.

Weather conditions, especially during the landscaping and groundwork phases, also posed challenges. However, our experienced team adapted to these obstacles, ensuring that every aspect of the project remained on schedule and met the highest standards of quality.
